GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

La Clape – one of the smallest and at the same time finest viticultural area of South France.

La Clape is bounded by a ten miles long mountain range ‘Montagnes de La Clape’ in the North and the Mediterranean sea (Gulf of Lyon) in the South. On the short way between Gruissan in the West and the border river Aude in the East there is a breathtaking landscape. On the one hand mountainous character with bizarre limestone formations and on the other hand exotic flair with salt lakes, flamingos and long sandy beaches.

For more than 2000 years wine has been grown on La Clape. Then the Roman Senate granted the Romans living in Narbonne the privilege to grow wine on La Clape. At that time geographically an island, La Clape has kept being an island till today with regard to the exclusiveness of the locally produced wines ‘on’ La Clape. There are only 35 vineyards and 4 vintager cooperatives on La Clape. A small but nice community who benefits from the favourable climate and the limey soil particularly qualified for viniculture.
